Lyrics

GI Bill

G.I. Bill was sure of the drill, still would

Never know what he was in for

When he signed on the dotted line

He never dreamt he’d go to war

Once a month on the weekends he would

Practice all the military’s knowledge

What a great plan to serve his land

And to pay his way through college

G.I. Bill at attention stood

When his sergeant shouted out,

“Uncle Sam needs our helping hand, soon our

Company is moving out!”

He’d been trained not to show any pain

Couldn’t shake the feelings there inside him

As his eyes searched the blood red skies

1.Looking 2.Praying for a star to guide him

G.I. Bill was just nineteen years

When his unit mobilized

Spent six months guarding a checkpoint, ‘til a

Roadside bomb then took his life.

When he signed up for the paid benefits

No one said a word to him about dying.

Now another son’s coming home,

And another mother’s crying

G.I. Bill was sure of the drill, still would

Never know what he was in for
